Create a space to be reborn and renewed every day — a place to find rest
I think that creating our own sacred space lets us express our very human need for ongoing spiritual nourishment. Everyone can benefit from creating places where they intentionally choose what surrounds them. Your sacred space might contain a single object such as a time-worn chair at the end of a boat dock, a garden sculpture or a dish garden that you deliberately place in a special location. It may be an entire room arranged with plantings, lighting, furniture, objects and sounds that have special meaning for you and tangibly connect you with the sacred or spiritual side of yourself.
I sometimes hike to a secret grove where I keep a few natural, magikal elements. I sit within a medicine wheel on my beach every morning surrounded by crystals. In my meditation room where I do healing work I use chimes, drums, rattles, there are piles of beautifully woven cushions, heady incense. Sacred is my office where I am surrounded with photos of my children, their trinkets and treasures, technology, itunes. But perhaps my most sacred space is my kayak, where the only sound I need to connect with my essence is the rhythmic dip of my paddle, the wind and the waves keeping me mindful of constant change...
If "God is in the details," as the saying goes, the places you live and work can make your spirituality more a part of your everyday life. And that can go a long way toward helping you feel more centered, grounded and happy. Your definition of what's sacred is as individual as a fingerprint. Yet unlike a fingerprint, your personal ideas and expression of what is sacred can evolve and change over time. Mine do. My needs also shift. I love to start fresh, begin again. By rearranging what is on the outside I rearrange my inner wold in the process, every time!
I invite you to create a sacred space today. Start by defining what "sacred" or "spiritual" means to you and what you want from your sacred space. Before you begin, think about what you're seeking and decide how you want to use it. Do you want to:
• Create a private sanctuary for meditation and prayer, healing, or simply for quiet reflection?
• Designate a shared space for connecting with others, or for ritual or ceremony?
• Co-create a family altar that continually evolves with spontaneous contributions from each of you?
Creating a sacred space can be something you do once in your lifetime or every day, alone or with loved ones. I love to make new spaces to consecrate a new journey, or transform existing ideas, to celebrate an important decision or change, and to be more present and conscious in any aspect of my life.
You can create a special place for simple reflection, traditional meditation, or creativity. It all starts with a desire to make something beautiful, and meaningful. Again and again.
May you be blessed!

It is Spring. The Earth is calling you.
The Medicine Wheel teaches that beginnings begin in the East, where the Sun rises to each new dawn. Spring is the season of the East, and the time of change. It is the season of new ideas, and seeing the light. Spring is the season when all things begin to grow and awaken.
Yellow is the color associated with East (and the Goddess Oshun). In the Medicine Wheel, yellow is the color of the Path of Life, to begin the walk as a "warrior", to shine in all that you do. The energy to do and to begin the action of the mind and heart is located in the East. The sun rising in the East empowers each of us. The totems of the East include animals of wings and flight. Our words are given to the east that the smoke in the air or the voices in the air may be carried to Spirit.
I was mindful of this as I replaced the stones, noting I needed to bring down a few more quartz clusters which had been lost to the sands of time, resting back in the Earth from where they were born. I thought briefly of my own grandchildren, yet unborn, digging the clusters up on some future sunny summer's day. I watched my own boys, now young men, raking leaves and carrying away debris and I intuited, "they are already here." I felt content, and at deep peace with the circle that formed in my consciousness.
Last night had a dream in which the Grandmothers came to my Medicine Wheel and replaced the East stones with glowing blue eggs. Bigger than robin's eggs and deeper blue, I thought about the flock of Robins that had been in the yard yesterday, they caught my attention because they were tweeting so loundly. In my dream I thought, "Oh I am just dreaming this because of all those Robins, I forgot to replace the quartz clusters..." when I got a sharp NO! and was promptly propelled into another dream segment.
I am not going to elaborate on the cast of characters who entered my consciousness, and who rose up from the depths of history to share their wisdom. I will not share what was contained within the blue eggs. But I will tell you that am I am still shaking. And I will also tell you that the Goddess in her many forms stayed with me, changing her face as was required by the incarnations of the messengers, to make sure I "got it."
Our environments have been degraded, climate affected, our life-sustaining resources are being depleted and ruined by human ignorance and human greed. I was shown how politics and even religion itself will be used as weapons of war, as a leverage to separate people and to pit them against one another in a great conflict, not over ideology, but over the resources of the world, and how the conflict will be masked. It will be clothed in the disguise of politics and religion, but in essence it will be a competition for and over access and distribution of resources.
We citizens of the world are entering a time of self-imposed difficulty and environmentally-forced change to balance it. The world’s resources are declining. Populations are growing. And as this is occurring, there will be continued competition, manipulation, and conflict and war. Ancient animosities will be aroused. Prejudices will be played upon and used by those who are ambitious within both governments and religious institutions. Human weakness will be preyed upon, and fear will be pervasive.
The Goddess of My Understanding intends for humanity to become united and self-sufficient within a Universe full of intelligent life. Human strengths will be celebrated, and love will be the way.
I do intuit that there are beings, and systems, both within and beyond this world who are awaiting humanity’s failure to do so. I believe that just as there are human beings awaiting the opportunity to intervene in order to take advantage of a weak and conflicted humanity, there are interdimensional beings also sitting in the front row seats watching the show.
And, I do believe that throughout time, The Goddess has been sent forward into the world for the protection and advancement of humanity. And I believe she has birthed again for the very same reason. To make sure my grandchildren come to dig those crystals out of the beach, that the lake remains pristine and its creatures abundant.
What is threatening our human family and threatening to send it into despair, threatening to undermine the well-being and survival of people everywhere is our own blindness. Our ability to be manipulated. And, our fear.
Humanity’s possibility to navigate these difficult times is very small unless we embrace the collective wisdom of the Divine Feminine. The possibility for humanity to avoid ongoing war, conflict and degradation is very small unless the principles of the Goddess are restored to mass consciousness. The promise for humanity to begin a greater future, a future that will be unlike the past, will be very small if the masculine principals of control and consumption, coersion and conquer are left in place to guide us forward.
To those who will be tempted to take up arms in the name of religion or political advantage: You must recognize that your thoughts, your intent and your actions go against the Goddess’s will for humanity. They are in violation of what Mother Earth intends for humanity. Of what all Mothers intend for their children.
It is Spring. The Earth is calling you. The Goddess, Divine Mother, is calling you. You must only sit quietly, out in the sunshine, and open your heart to hear. Her voice has never been more clear. Each day is a good new day with a fresh beginning, a new start.
May you be blessed!

Before the Madness: Create Sacred Space for Seasonal Serenity!
Before the Holiday Madness overtakes your sense and sensibilities, I urge you to create a quiet, inspiring place in your home that helps you feel more connected to what's meaningful in your life. Like me, many of you already have sacred spaces dedicated for practices such as meditation, yoga, prayer, healing, or divination. But even if you do not need a dedicated place for "daily rituals", or you already have a space for these, you might want to create a space simply for "seasonal serenity".
Creating your own sacred space lets you express your deepest human need for ongoing spiritual nourishment, which transcends obligatory holiday shopping and social engagements which can be devoid of any nourishment at all. Everyone can benefit from creating places where they intentionally choose what surrounds them. Entering a sacred space is like giving yourself permission to take a moment to be renewed, to find rest, to get out of your head and honor what's in your heart. Sacred spaces feed the spirit. And, that can go a long way toward helping you feel more centered, grounded, healthy, and happy.
Creating sacred space is all about making personal choices that feel right intuitively, so there is no right or wrong way to do it. Begin by arranging objects that give you energy, inspire you, and are pleasing to all of your senses – that which tastes, sounds, smells, looks and feels good to you.
Even if you can not dedicate an entire room, you can use a corner of a room or garden. Also consider using a cushion, rug, low table, or screen to make your sacred space feel more contained, relaxing and personal. I personally love outdoor spaces, in all seasons, as nature's voice is most often what I need to hear when the Madness is calling me. I maintain a medicine wheel on my beach, and a beautiful crystal grid in my herb garden which are both large enough for me to sit at their centers. Because they are used often, they hold tremendous positive fields and are magnets to many of the sweet little creatures that also share my yard; butterflies, birds, chipmunks and more! Those creatures provide me with a wonderful connection to the Earth, and they are in fact the most important sounds, and sensually pleasing additions to my sacred spaces. Indoors, I have a traditional healing space pleasing to Oshun. The only sound is the waves of the lake caressing the shoreline.
Whether you create a space outdoors or inside, focus on aesthetically pleasing items that speak to you, inspire you, and that are meaningful to you. You might include:
- Stones and shells that hold memories from special places
- A dish garden or fountain
- Talismans and symbols of peace and safety
- Artwork and photographs of loved ones and special places
- Statuary and traditional symbols of divine and protective energies
- Candles, incense, scented plants and flowers
- Color, light, texture, fabrics, mirrors, crystals, chimes
- Poetry, sacred texts, favorite quotes and words of wisdom from any and all faiths
- Personal Divination Tools such as Runes, Shells, or a favorite deck of Tarot cards
- Music: Instruments or CDs
It all starts with a desire to make something as beautiful and as comforting as you possibly can, just for you. This space is yours. Today, honor your heart's desire to feel more connected to what's truly meaningful in your life. I wish you seasonal serenity!
May you be blessed!
